I have many memories of Knocker but one of the most vivid is when several of us at Island were celebrating Knocker’s birthday at Barbarella’s Restaurant in Chelsea. A very popular restaurant and probably the first of its kind to have a disco in the middle. We’d finished the meal and the waiter arrived at the table placing a huge birthday cake in front of Knocker. He looked bemused and slightly uncomfortable not knowing what to do. And just as we raised our glasses about to make a toast he just stood up and literally nutted the cake. He smashed his face in so hard it exploded everywhere leaving everyone of us covered in sponge cake and cream. And of course John’s face was totally covered in cream too. Needless to say there was never a dull moment in John’s company and it was a riotous evening. Love you Knocker you will always be remembered. R.I.P ❤️
